The Getty

Wouldn't it be nice to be so rich that you make your house into a museum that attracts 1.3 million visitors each year? Welcome to the Getty Center!

J. Paul Getty started collecting artwork as a past-time, and his collection just grew. Now, it is a $1.3 billion center that officially opened to the public in 1997. The museum was designed by a famous architect (one of the main reasons my hubby wanted to go), and has extensive gardens and awesome views overlooking LA. You have to park in a garage, then ride a cable tram up to the center, which is a pretty cool experience.

And wow, is this a museum. It has super famous paintings (Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir, etc.), drawings, sculptures, photographs, and even original illuminated manuscripts from the early Catholic Church. Soooo cool.

Check out our pics.

  1. That is pretty cool. I would not want 1.3 million visitors, though. It's bad enough dealing with the occasional Jehovah's Witness.
