Wouldn't it be nice to be so rich that you make your house into a museum that attracts 1.3 million visitors each year? Welcome to the Getty Center!
J. Paul Getty started collecting artwork as a past-time, and his collection just grew. Now, it is a $1.3 billion center that officially opened to the public in 1997. The museum was designed by a famous architect (one of the main reasons my hubby wanted to go), and has extensive gardens and awesome views overlooking LA. You have to park in a garage, then ride a cable tram up to the center, which is a pretty cool experience.
And wow, is this a museum. It has super famous paintings (Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir, etc.), drawings, sculptures, photographs, and even original illuminated manuscripts from the early Catholic Church. Soooo cool.
Check out our pics.
What a perfect way to end the day.
That is pretty cool. I would not want 1.3 million visitors, though. It's bad enough dealing with the occasional Jehovah's Witness.
ReplyDeleteHow cool! And what beautiful pictures! James must have been in heaven there ;)
